Old style websites were like encyclopedias – companies thought they had to tell everything about every aspect of their business. They created a myriad of pull down menus in an attempt to cover every topic, each on a separate page.
New Style Websites
Apple is the big guy on the block, sitting with over $200 Billion in cash. They can throw any amount of money at their website. They do not have a single pull down menu. Most of their main screens have great graphics and very little text.
Scroll Down Screens
When you look at a page in Apple’s website, you will find that information is presented vertically. You scroll down to see more and each topic is present simply, showing multiple ideas on a single page. At any point you can see greater detail by clicking on “Learn More.” This is the form of a modern website – don’t throw everything at the viewer, just enough to get them to act.

Apple’s website is filled with beautiful pictures of their products, and just a small about of text. In every area there is a “Buy” option. Any company would do well to follow this example.
